LANTERNFALL is a co-op .io game about light against the dark. Ten lantern-towers stand on a ring of floating islands around the Void, and every night shadow creatures called the Murk pour out of it toward the lanterns. One of those lanterns is yours.
How to play LANTERNFALL
Roam your island and the wild islets between waves, gathering light-motes to grow. Your Keeper evolves through 12 forms, from a tiny Wisp to a winged Titan of Light, and every form swings a longer, brighter sword.
Touch your lantern to bank your light, then spend it on upgrades that make your lantern fire harder, last longer and earn more.
When the dusk bell rings, the Murk march down your bridge. Swing to burst them into gold.
Every 10 waves a boss rises from the Void and walks the ring, and everyone who hits it is rewarded. Crowns go to the top damage dealer and to the killing blow.
Nobody ever fights another player. When a neighbour's lantern flickers, a beam of light rises from it, and you can go and help, or not. Empty seats are filled by AI Wardens, and a new night opens every 20 seconds, so you never wait in a lobby.
Controls
Keyboard and mouse
- Move the mouse to walk, or use WASD or the arrow keys.
- Left-click or SPACE to swing your sword.
- Right-click or SHIFT to sprint.
- E opens your lantern upgrades.
- 1, 2 and 3 cast your spells (they auto-cast by default).
- Q opens the glyph wheel.
Phone and tablet
- Drag on the left half of the screen to walk.
- Your Keeper swings automatically at anything in reach; tap SWING (bottom right) to swing yourself, and hold SPRINT to run.
- Tap a spell slot to cast. The tab bar at the bottom opens your lantern upgrades.
Tips
- Grow between waves. Every light-mote makes your Keeper bigger and your sword longer, and a longer sword clears the bridge faster.
- Bank your light at the lantern before the dusk bell, so it turns into upgrades rather than sitting on your Keeper.
- You pick a spell at the start of each night, so choose it for the threat you expect.
- Boss waves reward everyone who lands a hit, so join in even if you will not top the damage board.
- Helping a flickering neighbour takes you away from your own bridge. Go when your lantern is safe.

- Souls earned each night buy permanent research.
- A Lantern Workshop project you start today finishes tomorrow.
- Fill the Evolution Codex, chase your best night on the leaderboard, and keep three daily tasks and a light streak going.
